Hauliers Welcome Possible Speed Increase For HGVS

With the deadline for the Government’s consultation on increasing the speed limit for HGVs on single lane roads fast approaching, the calls for the A9 in Scotland, branded Scotland’s deadliest road, to see an increase have risen. The A9 runs between Inverness and Perth with a number of single carriageway stretches that drop traffic down to 40mph in accordance with the current traffic laws for HGVs. The Road Haulage Association, amongst others, have been lobbying for years to get the speed limit increased to 50mph along that stretch of road, in an effort to help increase road safety and reduce the number of accidents. The consultation regarding the proposed speed increase for HGVs will be concluded on February 1st with details of the final decision following.
