Questions

Question: Please can you give further details of your insurance requirement for this shipment ? - wales123 (23-02-2010)
Response: The goods will be shipped from the US either CIF or C&F. Lets assume CIF - in which case I will need the goods to be insured for the journey form the depot at which they will be unstuffed form the container to my warehouse, for normal risks: damage in transit, theft, accidental damage etc.

The goods are non-hazardous and not of any use to anyone who does not have the specific industrial application for which they were designed - it is not a consignment of fmcg.

I may put in place a comprehensive marine and commercial cargo policy but this is not yet decided.
Question: Thanks for your response.
If the shipment is a full container, it will be delivered sealed, to your door ( not unstuffed ). However, we are able to offer any kind of insurance as an extra to the quote we have submitted. - wales123 (23-02-2010)
Response: NO RESPONSE YET
Question: Please advise the name of the shipping line that the cargo will be shipped with to Southampton? - FrankFox (24-02-2010)
Response: This is presently a budgeting exercise, with the first shipment planned to leave the US in April. It will probably be Maersk.
Question: Would you be interested in receiving an Ex works or FOB price from USA to compare with your C&F or CIF price? - FrankFox (24-02-2010)
Response: Certainly - the shipping pick up point is:

615 North Fairview Road
Zeeland, MI 49464-9421, United States
Question: Is the transit time from Zeeland to Newport an important consideration for you?
- FrankFox (25-02-2010)
Response: No - once we have the first shipment in, future follow-ons are simply a function of prior planning and we should be able to factor in whatever lead time delivers the best solution. Once we have an established route we shall probably stick to it for the long term and, conceivably, may bring in as many as twelve FEUs a year (We'll upgrade to 40' as soon as volume dictates).

That said, given the very nature of container shipping - I would not really want a lot of transhipments due to the increased risk of loss and damage.

(A digression - One of my clients tried to save money in 1986 by paying to ship some industrial machinery from Amsterdam to Djibouti by transhipping in Ethiopia, against my advice - and as far as I know the freight is still there!)
Question: Point taken, I would only consider one transhipment which would bring the cargo to Bristol thus the delivery to Newport will prove competitive. However, I will look at the options and come back to you a.s.a.p.

Regards
Frank - FrankFox (25-02-2010)
Response: Thanks. I had anticipated loading in Chicago, with perhaps a transhipment in Newark onto a Maersk line to Southampton. I did not think there was a trnastlantic conference line that served Bristol (I am a Brit, but I have been living in the US for a number of years - I am coming back home to establish European distribution for this product range and have not dealt with UK shipping routes for over a decade, so am completely out of touch).

So, as I am working from a blank sheet of paper, I am open to all suggestions to achieve the most efficient method of moving these shipments form the manufacturing site to the Europe warehouse, where they will be stored before fulfilling smaller deliveries to end-user customers across the EU.
Question: Is the warehouse in Newport "Bonded" as you will have to pay duty and 17.5% Vat on the CIF value on import to the UK. By placing your stock in "Bonded" warehouse you can delay payment of the Duty until you make a delivery into the EU and your customer could account for the Vat in their own EU country. We have a "Bonded" warehouse in Liverpool and can arrange EU distribution. - FrankFox (25-02-2010)
Response: No, we are not bonded. I had anticipated paying VAT and import duty, if any, at time of importation. I am presently preparing a quote to the integrated express carriers and logistics firms to do a "make or buy" comparison of leasing our own warehouse and engaging with a courier, UPS, DHL, DSV, Bibby etc, or outsourcing the whole kit and caboodle, either to a logistics solutions provider with a node in the UK or, perhaps, Rotterdam, Amsterdam of, maybe, Frankfurt. For us to engage in a detailed discussion about my needs and to ask you to let me know more about your capabilities I'll have to have a conversation with you.

I have not yet ascertained the import tariff - that task is still in my "Pending" tray.
Question: hi we are midlands based with a national pallet netork uk

and a pallet network covering 99 percent of europe with delivery of goods to the whole of europe ex midlands to any door europe 6 days max

could i qt you just for your interest bringing in box devaning in our warehouse palletising storing

this will negate the fact for a uk warehouse we take care of all the logistics side you just do the sop pass the orders to us and we distribute.

i hope you find it of interest thks - eb--uk (27-02-2010)
Response: Yes you may - I am going out for these quotes next week to many logistics/distribution specialists - I'll need an address so I can forward to you the invitation to quote.
Question: Hi again,
Please do not forget us - we were first to respond to your transport request and we would like you to know that we also have the capability to offer a 'one stop shop' to cover ALL your needs! - wales123 (01-03-2010)
Response: NO RESPONSE YET
Question: I am unable to provide you with further detailed information through this website. - FrankFox (25-03-2010)
