I have a few questions:

1)What kind of insurance is included in terms of damage/loss/etc.
2)The pick-up and delivery, are they both scheduled with a time window of some kind - can they be after hours or on weekends?
3)How long does it take from pick-up to delivery?
4)Is there any flexibility in the cost?
5)Are there any extra costs - customs etc?

Sorry for the late reply, please see answers to your questions below:

1) Standard air insurance which is $20.00 p/kg, we can arrange insurance separately if you need it, just let me know the value you need insuring too.

2) The transport is based on DHL Express so they will only give me between 09:00 and 17:30 for collection and delivery.

3) Approx 2-3 day transit.

4) Cost is the best price I have. I could prob do it cheaper using a less reliable carrier, I will have a look into this for you.

5) The price includes customs clearance, if the goods are personnel belongings then they should be free of any duty on import to the USA, I can email you the form you will need to complete for this.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have just a few follow-up questions.

1) Just to confirm - in terms of the insurance, when you say $20/kg, that means that the 30 kg box with the bike is insured $20 x 30 kg = $600. This relates to any loss or damages to the packages. If that's the case, then I think that should be perfectly sufficient.

2) Does the 9- 17:30 apply on a Saturday, or is it only weekdays?

4) I would be interested in seeing the comparable prices and time difference.

5) They are all personal belongings which should be free of duty. I have an inventory list for each box which I can supply.

Sorry for the delay, I had to double check on the DHL insurance and I got it a little wrong! It is $20.00 p/kg but this is to max $100.00. For an additional charge of £12.00 the full consignment can be insured for £600.00 GBP

Collections are only made Monday to Friday, I have tried booking DHL for a weekend before and they let me down.

I have checked various other carriers and they are working out more expensive. The next closest vendor I can find offering the same service as mie is selling for £432.32 !!

Inventory will be fine but it must have a value just for customs purposes.

Question: Hey Lisa,

Sorry for the delay. I'm just trying to coordinate this with my friend in London, as I'm now in NY.

How accurate a time window does DHL give in terms of pick-up (1 Hour, 2Hours..etc?). It is just tough to do during the workweek so I need to minimise the amount of time required.

They wont offer me a morning collection slot as this is when they are making deliveries so they can only give me afternoon slots.

Would need to know the day before collection is due to be made so 24 hours notice.

No probs with the olympics apart from the fact that I didn't get any tickets :-(

Hi Jeremy,

Its just a thought but would your friend be able to drop the shipment to a place in Colnbrook (SL3 postoce) at their convenience then I can pick it up from there? They could drop it of any afternoon or evening up to 21:00 but I would be charged £15.00 handling fee by the place I am thinking they could drop it too.
